UNEXPECTED SURPRISE: Proserpine Historical Museum Society volunteer Ailsa Reinke with the French Foreign Legion accoutrements and medals that were discovered at Cannonvale Vinnies last week. Matthew Newton

VOLUNTEERS at the Proserpine Historical Museum are seeking more information about a haul of French Foreign Legion medals and accoutrements that was donated to St Vincent de Paul Cannonvale last week.

It is unknown who donated the items to St Vincent de Paul Cannonvale, but volunteers at the museum would like to know more.

Proserpine Historical Museum volunteer Ailsa Reinke said the discovery was "surprising".

"It's very unusual," she said.

"We have no idea where it came from but we think it's the genuine article.

"We're just curious as to who the owner was and wondering if anyone can tell us more."

The Proserpine museum can be contacted on 4945 3969.
